Cross the wild landscapes of Morocco’s Iriqui National Park on foot from Marrakech to Mhamid, Erg Sedrar, Lake Iriqui, and Madouar Mountains with full camel caravan support.
Supported by a traditional camel caravan, you can focus entirely on the walking journey while your luggage is transported to each day’s mobile camp. Guided by experienced Sahrawi hosts, you will gain deep insight into desert life, wildlife, and cultural traditions around the evening campfire.
A 9-day journey covering 16–20 km per day with shaded lunch breaks and wilderness camps.
Meet in Marrakech at 8:30am and travel by minibus towards Morocco’s desert frontier, gradually leaving the Atlas Mountains behind. Arrive in Mhamid El Ghizlane and settle into your desert lodge before the trek begins.
Start trekking west into the Sahara, walking for approximately 5 to 6 hours with a shaded lunch break en route. Reach the Lotide area and set up camp among sheltering dunes and trees for your first wilderness night.
Continue westwards into the isolated Erg Sedrar dune field. The day combines undulating sand crests, desert vegetation, and earth-pan landscapes. Camp in a remote wilderness setting beneath dark skies.
Trek deeper into the untouched southern sections of Iriqui National Park, amidst low dunes and scattered Tamarisk trees. Look for traces of Dorcas gazelle and enjoy a fresh three-course dinner prepared by the camp cook.
Track north-west around the base of the massive Erg Chigaga dune field. The towering sand sea gradually transitions into broad plateaux and dried flats as we approach Lake Iriqui. Wilderness camp in a peaceful location.
Cross the vast, open salt flats of Lake Iriqui towards the Jebel Bani mountain range. The sheer expanse and silence create an incredible sense of isolation. Camp beneath clear desert skies.
Continue parallel to the foot of Jebel Bani towards the distinctive flat-topped Madouar mesa. Rocky formations contrasted with golden acacia plains create stunning scenery. Camp near the mountains.
Follow trails beneath dramatic canyon cliffs and pinnacles towards the Foum Zguid region. Enjoy your final trekking stage followed by a celebratory campfire evening with the Sahrawi support team.
Depart camp by 4×4 to Foum Zguid, then transfer to the minibus for the scenic mountain drive back across the Atlas to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon/early evening.
